"Many were increasingly of the opinion that they'd all made a big mistake coming down from the trees in the first place, and some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no-one should ever have left the oceans."

This reminded me of the book: Ishmael

Daniel Quinn's famous 1992 novel Ishmael, which explores humanity's destructive relationship with the planet through Socratic dialogues with an unnamed narrator, challenging human exceptionalism and unsustainable civilization.

I can relate to that. I work with a bunch of imbeciles who don’t seem to think anything is off-kilter about life. Fucking football (the English kind), large televisions with rolling “news” and rants against “conspiracy nutters who question covid” are their fuel. I’m glad I’m not cooped up in an office with them. This is social distancing I prefer.

So ... trust no one? Or, no media?

Be a hermit. Make friends with animals. They rock.

Real people aren't always good, but I think most of us would be better off talking to real people about real things happening real local.

I agree. That's kind of what I'm saying in the post, that the divide is to great to hope to communicate across it, in terms of distant blood-relatives. I had a very painful experience trying to help them be aware of some of the dangers of taking the mystery shot -- I wouldn't have tried if it wasn't my ethical duty to do so, because I knew deep down I would fail. I'm very happy with the village life where I am now and the small number of close friends I have. The circle of trust has shrunk, though -- radically.

Odd then that I get so much out of discussing things with people here in Substack. I am conflicted about it and the amount of time I spend here.

I think the note thing has introduced the usual hypnotised scrolling mentality... but I think Ss is still somewhere you can find really interesting and authentic people. I don't do facebook any more but over the years I did meet a couple of people there who really influenced me *in real life* as they say.
